RA RA
These masterpieces were selected to be displayed beside Royal Academicians from Cornish collections in the Exhibition ‘RA RA’ and were created during a Falmouth Art Gallery Family workshop. The Royal Academy was founded by George III in 1768 with the first President being Sir Joshua Reynolds. Its purpose was to elevate British art and architecture - a task for which it is remarkably successful.
This exhibition shows works by major Royal Academicians from Cornish Collections, and in the spirit of the academy we have included some 'new talent' from children's workshops to hang beside the Academicians' art. More is on show along the staircase to the main entrance as well as by the lift entrance.
The exhibition has been made possible by generous funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund, Hine Downing Solicitors and University College Falmouth incorporating Dartington College. We are also grateful to Penlee House Gallery & Museum, Royal Cornwall Museum, the Royal Cornwall Polytechnic Society and private collectors for their loans.
