Man Ray was born in Philadelphia as Emmanuel Radnitsky. He was an influential Surrealist photographer and painter whose innovative photographs challenged boundaries between art and fashion. Man Ray said that he did not photograph nature, he photographed his fantasy.

In 1937 he stayed with Roland Penrose and other major Surrealists at Lamb Creek on the Fal river in Cornwall.
