Beattie, Basil RA (born 1935)
English painter and printmaker, he studied at West Hartlepool College of Art (1950-55) and at the Royal Academy schools in London. Throughout the 1980s and 90s he taught at Goldsmiths College. His work was inspired by a variety of artists including Walter Richard Sickert, Picasso and the American Abstract Expressionists. Beatie’s work often has an underlying intangible narrative of forms relating mysteriously to each other.
